THREATS

Many people are familiar with the idea of a computer virus or a hacker breaking into a system, stealing data, and wreaking havoc. The simple truth is that anything that may gain unauthorized access or cause harm to a system is a threat. It may happen through hacking, social engineering, malicious software such as viruses and Trojans, or a combination of methods. It can occur over wired and wireless networks alike, as well as the internet. Depending on the technology in question, different methods and tools are used—including legitimate ones, but when they are used for malicious purposes they become attacks.
